บางครั้ง การเจอกันของวงดนตรีต่าง scene ไม่ได้มีความหมายแค่ว่า
“เอาหลายวงมาเล่นบนเวทีเดียวกัน”
แต่อาจเป็นการลองถามว่า...
เส้นที่เราเคยใช้แบ่งแนวดนตรีออกจากกัน ยังจำเป็นแค่ไหน?
เดือนตุลาคมปีนี้ คำถามนี้กำลังจะถูกทดลองจริงบนเวที MASKED BEYOND vol.1 งานใหม่ที่ตั้งใจพา Visual Kei และ J-Rock มาพบกันแบบไม่ต้องยืนอยู่คนละฝั่งอีกต่อไป
งานนี้เตรียมจัดขึ้นในวันที่ 13 ตุลาคม 2026 บนเวที clubasia โตเกียว
โดยมี 4 ศิลปิน ตบเท้าเข้าร่วมงาน
Arlequin / RAZOR / Azami / KALA
Visual Kei 2 วง
J-Rock อีก 2 วง
แล้วปล่อยให้เสียงดนตรีตอบเองว่า จะเกิดอะไรขึ้นเมื่อศิลปินจากต่าง scene มาอยู่ในฮอลล์เดียวกัน
คำว่า BEYOND มีความหมายตรงตัวว่า
“ก้าวไปให้ไกลกว่านั้น”
“ข้ามสิ่งที่เคยเป็นเส้นแบ่ง”
เพราะเป้าหมายของงานนี้ไม่ได้อยู่ที่การทำ event แบบ “รวมหลาย genre” ให้ดูแปลกใหม่เท่านั้น
แต่เป็นการสร้างพื้นที่ให้ทั้ง ศิลปินและคนฟังของแต่ละ scene ได้เดินออกจากพื้นที่ที่ตัวเองคุ้นเคยอีกหนึ่งก้าว
แนวคิดนี้มีที่มาจาก MASKED โปรเจกต์ที่เริ่มขึ้นในปี 2025 พร้อมคอนเซ็ปต์เรียบง่ายว่า
Visual Kei คือความอิสระ”
และในเดือนพฤษภาคม 2026 บัตรเข้าชมงาน MASKED 2026 ซึ่งกระจายการแสดงไปยัง Spotify O-EAST, O-WEST และ duo MUSIC EXCHANGE ก็ Sold Out ทั้ง 2 วัน
จากการพาศิลปินต่างรุ่น ต่างสังกัดมาเจอกัน
คราวนี้ MASKED เลยขยายขอบเขตออกไปอีกขั้น
จาก “ความหลากหลายภายใน Visual Kei”
สู่
“แล้วถ้า Visual Kei เดินออกไปเจอกับ Rock Scene อื่นจริง ๆ ล่ะ?”
ตรงนี้แหละที่ทำให้ MASKED BEYOND น่าสนใจ
เพราะถ้า Visual Kei บอกมาตลอดว่า
ตัวเองคือพื้นที่ของอิสระในการแสดงออก
บางทีขั้นต่อไปของความอิสระ...
อาจไม่ใช่การสร้างกำแพงให้ genre แข็งแรงขึ้น
แต่คือการกล้าที่จะ เปิดประตูออกไปเจอสิ่งอื่น

What Happens When the Line Between Visual Kei and J-Rock Disappears?
Sometimes, bringing artists from different scenes together means more than simply putting several bands on the same stage.
Sometimes, it raises a bigger question:
Do the boundaries we use to define music still matter as much as they once did?
This October, that question will be put to the test at MASKED BEYOND vol.1, a new event created to bring Visual Kei and J-Rock together—not as two separate worlds sharing a bill, but as artists occupying the same musical space.
The event will take place on October 13, 2026, at clubasia in Tokyo, featuring four artists:
Arlequin / RAZOR / Azami / KALA
Two from the Visual Kei scene.
Two from the broader J-Rock scene.
From there, the music itself gets to answer the question:
What happens when artists from different scenes meet in the same room?
Going “Beyond” the Genre
The word BEYOND says a lot about what this event is trying to do.
To go further.
To cross a boundary.
To step beyond something that once separated one side from another.
The idea behind MASKED BEYOND is not simply to create an unusual multi-genre lineup.
It is about creating a space where both artists and audiences can take one step outside the scenes they already know.
The story began with MASKED, a project launched in 2025 around one simple idea:
“Visual Kei is freedom.”
By May 2026, MASKED had grown significantly. MASKED 2026, held across Spotify O-EAST, O-WEST and duo MUSIC EXCHANGE, sold out both days while bringing together artists from different generations and different labels within the Visual Kei scene.
Now, the project is taking that idea one step further.
It is moving from diversity within Visual Kei to a much bigger question:
What happens when Visual Kei steps outside its own scene and meets other parts of Japanese rock?
And that may be the most interesting part of MASKED BEYOND.
Maybe Freedom Means Opening the Door
Visual Kei has long been associated with freedom of expression.
Freedom in sound.
Freedom in appearance.
Freedom in identity.
Freedom to create something that does not need to fit neatly inside someone else’s definition.
If that freedom is truly at the heart of Visual Kei, perhaps its next step does not have to be about making the walls around the genre stronger.
Perhaps it can also mean having the confidence to open the door.
To meet artists from somewhere else.
To let different audiences stand in the same room.
And to discover what might exist on the other side of a boundary that once seemed necessary.
Maybe the most interesting sound is not always found entirely on one side or the other.
Maybe it is waiting somewhere in between.
